This weekend, dancers from different genres will get an opportunity to showcase their talent at the Dance World Cup-India Qualifiers. Participants who qualify will get an opportunity to participate in the Dance World Cup (DWC) 2018 that happens in June this year in Barcelona, Spain.

This is the first time that a qualifying round is being held in India and the DWC Chairman, John Grimshaw, along with Andra Gheorghe and Bogdan Boanta —both Romanian dancers, will be judging the competition. “India has done very well in the previous editions of Dance World Cup. Indian dancing is certainly world class and we look forward to seeing some great performances this weekend,” says John. The other two judges, Andra and Bogdan, specialise in hip-hop and commercial dances. “We are really keen on seeing Hip-Hop, Commercial and national (tribal, classical and folk) dance forms from India,” adds John.

The Indian qualifiers round is organised by the Indian Society for Performers and Teachers of Dance (ISPTD) and Lourd Vijay. The reason why this qualifying round is important is because Indian dance artistes from tier 2 and tier 3 cities get an opportunity to showcase their skill to international judges and if qualified for the finals, they could fly to Barcelona. The competition includes dance styles such as hip-hop, street, commercial and freestyle, Bollywood, classical, folk, tribal, contemporary and modern, ballet, jazz and tap.

January 20-21. At Phoenix Marketcity, Whitefield
